Under the direction of the PI and senior scientists, the Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the daily care and husbandry of laboratory mouse colonies, as well as tissue collection and processing, as part of a large scale neuronal transcriptional mapping study.
Job-Specific Responsibilities:
Using established protocols and technical procedures, the Lab Technician will carry out animal housing organization and census, breeding, genotyping, and daily health observations. He/she will also assist with and perform tissue collection and banking, tissue processing for nuclei isolation by FACS sorting, and other related duties and task, depending on time constraints and the needs of the lab.
This position is ideal for candidates interested in neuroscience, and is a unique opportunity for interacting in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment and to be trained in a variety of experimental approaches. Direct training by postdocs in the lab will be provided.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience with laboratory animal procedures and basic biological laboratory techniques are required.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
BS/BA in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience strongly preferred. At least one year of directly related, full-time experience in a research lab is strongly recommended but extensive part-time research experience will also be considered. Prior experience with tissue dissection and cell sorting is strongly preferred. Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail are required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff and with external contacts in a fast paced environment are required.
