Job Description

The Weingarten lab in the Microbiology Department of Harvard Medical School is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic research assistant I (RAI) to work in a virology research laboratory. The ability to communicate effectively, work well in a team setting, and a strong desire to learn new methods are required. Working closely with the PI or with a senior scientist, the RA I will design experiments, perform a variety of molecular biology techniques including molecular cloning, DNA/RNA extraction, DNA/protein gel electrophoresis, PCR, mammalian cell culture, cell transfection and analyze experimental results. The candidate should have high organization skills and meticulous documentation of experiments in a lab notebook. The position offers an excellent opportunity to participate in a dynamic research environment in an exciting fast-paced field of research. 


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline. 
  • At least one-year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory protocols and abilities in laboratory techniques. 
  • Minimal computational skills (Excel, PowerPoint) are essential. 
  • Also essential are good communication skills, both oral and written. 

Additional Information

  • Term: This is a 1-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
  • Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week | Monday - Friday | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Work Format Details
