The Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Paul Farmer Collaborative are seeking a highly organized and proactive Research Coordinator to support the research, grants, administrative, and training initiatives of two faculty members. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful global health research and capacity-building efforts across international sites and collaborating organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
Research Coordination
- Oversee the preparation and submission of research protocols, IRB applications, amendments, and compliance documentation.
- Liaise with international research partners and community-based organizations to facilitate collaborative projects. Maintain research databases, ensuring adherence to data quality, integrity, and security standards.
- Organize and facilitate research meetings, workshops, and academic conferences, including developing agendas and documenting outcomes.
- Assist in preparing presentations, technical reports, and academic manuscripts for publication.
- Support and mentor student researchers affiliated with faculty members.
Grants Program and Training Coordination
- Administer the Paul Farmer Collaborative’s grants program and training initiatives, including communications with applicants and participants.
- Assist with grant budget development, proposal formatting, and timely submission of applications.
- Coordinate all phases of grant management, including submission, review, award, compliance tracking, and post-award administration.
- Monitor and report on program and grant compliance, financial status, and progress milestones.
- Maintain comprehensive databases for grants and training program participants; prepare regular updates and summary reports.
- Manage the application, review, and implementation processes for training programs.
Administrative Support
- Provide high-level administrative support to two faculty members, including managing calendars, correspondence, and scheduling.
- Coordinate domestic and international travel arrangements and process reimbursements for faculty and research staff.
- Serve as a key point of contact, collaborating with internal departments, Harvard administrative units, and external partners.
Basic Qualifications:
- College Degree or relevant work experience.
- 3 or more years related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Master's degree in public health, global health, or related field.
- Experience with global health research, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
- Knowledge of social medicine principles and health equity frameworks.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Experience with grant writing, submission processes, and compliance monitoring.
- Experience working in multicultural, international environments.
- Familiarity with Harvard University systems and procedures.
- Familiarity with academic publishing and manuscript preparation.
- Experience with community-based participatory research approaches.
- Term: This is a 2-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
- Standard Hours/Schedule: 40 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
