The Haigis lab has an opening for a highly motivated research assistant to support research in the lab. Under the supervision of the PI and lab researchers, typical core duties of the research assistant include ordering, animal colony husbandry and protocol assistance. The research assistant will have the opportunity to participate in scientific research and to contribute to the presentation and publication of the projects they assist.
Responsibilities include:
Experiments: the research assistant will assist postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in performing biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and mouse experiments.
Data analysis: the research assistant will assist postdoctoral fellows and graduate students with computational analysis of metabolomic, gene expression, epigenomic, and multi-omic datasets.
General lab tasks: the candidate will be responsible for general lab tasks including lab ordering and protocols, preparing common lab reagents, and maintaining lab common supply stocks.
Basic Qualifications:
- College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline.
- At least one year of related work experience (relevant coursework may count towards experience).
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- The candidate should be reliable, persistent, able to work independently, have strong problem-solving skills, have excellent communication and organizational abilities, and have a strong desire to learn new skills.
- A bachelor's degree in science is preferred.
- Competence in basic laboratory techniques is required.
- Competence in basic biostatistics is required.
- Familiarity with and enthusiasm for computational work is required.
- The candidate must be fluent in at least one common programming language, such as Python, R, MATLAB, C++, C, Java, or Perl.
- Previous experience with mouse work is not required, but the candidate must be willing to work with mice.
- Term: This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
- Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hrs. per week | Monday - Friday | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
