Job-Specific Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this position is responsible for discovery and document production, as well as a range of other duties. Key responsibilities include:
- Manages the University’s litigation hold process, including initial set up and ongoing management of litigation hold software
- Performs key responsibilities in responding to discovery requests and other requests for document production
- Manages the University’s response to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests
- Gathers records for and prepares responses to trustee process and other wage garnishment matters
- Organizes the effort to prepare and submit the annual audit letters and updates, and to comply with other reporting obligations
- Collects and performs initial review of records for responses to third-party subpoenas
- Manages the University’s electronic conflict of interest process for senior officers and administrators, including initial set up and ongoing management of COI database.
- Working with OGC senior staff, assists with intake and triage of requests for legal services, providing referrals to other University departments as appropriate
- Performs legal research
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Minimum of five years of professional experience with at least three years of experience in litigation and discovery, including experience with electronic discovery.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
This position requires organization and management of multiple complex legal matters, with attention to detail and deadlines. We seek candidates with good judgment, the ability to take initiative, and discretion, who can make independent decisions when needed and still work well with others. Paralegal certification is a plus.

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University’s Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
