By working at Harvard University, you join a vibrant community that advances Harvard's world-changing mission in meaningful ways, inspires innovation and collaboration, and builds skills and expertise. We are dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming environment where everyone can thrive.
Why join the Harvard Kennedy School?
The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University is one 12 graduate and professional schools at the university. Harvard Kennedy School’s mission is to improve public policy and leadership so people can live in societies that are more safe, free, just, and sustainably prosperous. By combining cutting-edge research, the teaching of outstanding students, and direct interaction with practitioners, we have an impact on solving public problems that no other institution can match. When you work at Harvard Kennedy School, you make a difference.
As the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Policy at Harvard Kennedy School approaches its 40th anniversary, we are launching a major new program – the Independent Media Lab. The digital media landscape is rapidly reshaping who holds influence over public opinion and policy—yet there’s no system to track these new power brokers. This initiative will map, monitor, and engage the people shaping this new media environment, and examine how platforms and business models are reshaping online political engagement. The program will aim to offer critical contributions to our collective understanding of this new multipolar news and information ecosystem.
The Director will build out this new program, including conceptualizing and organizing core research activities and events, leading efforts to convene leaders in the independent and legacy media to shape debate, and engaging in public scholarship and thought leadership. We are seeking a candidate who can integrate seamlessly with the Shorenstein community and collaborate with colleagues across HKS, the University, governments, and the private sector.
